On Tuesday 25th January 2024, we were very pleased to welcome Mr Andy Bliss – High Sheriff of West Sussex for a special visit to the Wings Aviation Museum.

Andy said:

“Although I have an interest in history and have lived locally for a good part of the last four decades, I had never visited the museum before. When I walked in from the rain into the enormous, hangar sized, farm shed I was seriously impressed by the array of WWII aircraft and aviation related artefacts and images on display.

It’s definitely a ‘hidden gem’ and I imagine that many people stay a couple of hours or more as there is lots to see. It was great to hear of the work that you are doing to support school visits. I will certainly be encouraging others to come over and take a look for themselves – I very much enjoyed the visit and would like to come back again to take a closer look myself.

I must also say ’thank you’ to the team of volunteers that I met – some of the 25 or so who support the work you do. It was great to meet them; they are clearly passionate about the museum and they contribute an array of valuable skills, experience and expertise”.

It was quite obvious to us all at the museum just how interested and enthusiastic he was, which was great to see and his visit gave all our dedicated volunteers a great boost.

Little VIPs

We have also had some fantastic “little VIP’s” visit the museum too, in the form of school visits.

Most recently we had a group of very excited and enthusiastic young people from New Barn School and they all had a great time. We love school visits here at the Wings Museum and our volunteers take great pride in spending time in talking to our younger visitors about life in World War Two. With WW2 being taught in many schools it is vital that the story of remembrance and sacrifice is passed onto the new generations.

The Wings Museum offers a host of personalised and unique experiences and talks aimed at schools. We are always very keen to hear from schools about arranging a potential visit to the museum.
